Let me first thank the thousands of veterans who—either voluntarily or by draft—have done what I have not, laid their lives on the line because the government asked them to. You do this for love of country, sense of duty, tradition, or because your number came up. Whatever the reason, we are forever grateful.
I attended today’s Memorial Day parade with my wife again this year. We do this primarily for our daughter. When she was little, she liked to collect the candy and treats thrown by the various marchers and organizations that participated in the event.
Now she is in the marching band.
They are one of several high school marching bands that fill the streets with Sousa during the parade, but this year, her band was invited to participate in a ceremony afterwards at the band shell where they played patriotic songs between speeches and prayers.
