Honoring those who've died for our flag, fighting to make sure fewer do so in the future

Among the frustrating aspects of today’s fractured, bigoted national environment, is the hatred the current GOP and its supporters have for anyone that doesn’t look like them—white and male—or those acquiescing to them. So days like today are important reminders of the sacrifices so many people have made for this country—people from all walks of life, all colors, all national origins, all genders.

Conservatives would deport Vinicio, regardless of his citizenship status, given their druthers. Yet he gave the ultimate sacrifice for the country they call home. Same goes for Humayun Khan, who is loathed for his religion.

Whatever “freedom” those conservatives think our overseas military adventurism protect, Khan was on the front lines, killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq.
