My father (Of Blessed Memory) fought and survived the Korean conflict which was June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953.
However many of his friends and colleagues did not fare as well.
My father passed away in 2008, but he was always hesitant to bring up his service. He fought in the infantry and as a result left the war with hearing loss that got worse as his life went on.
I write this diary to honor the 36,574 Americans died in hostile actions in the Korean War theater. Of these, 8,200 are listed as missing in action or lost or buried at sea.
Not much is mentioned of the conflict in Korea and I thought it would be fitting for those of us who have relatives/friends who fought in the conflict to keep their memories alive.
