This is a video my dad made all on his own after my explaining to him, on the phone, how to use his iPad to record video of himself. While that may sound like something fairly simple - it took about two weeks of constant, sometimes frustrating on both sides, conversation to make it happen. It was worth every second.
Obviously, it was not simple. We do not live in the same states.
Though he has had the iPad for a while, he really had no idea of how to properly use it - until this recording. He also had to learn how to connect his iPad to a computer I'd previously set up in his home. He had never used that either.
He does not go online.
He does not browse the net. His net search capability is such that he will tell me things like, "just ask your phone - that's what I do." Nevertheless, when I suggested that this could be done - he pulled out all the stops to understand how to make it happen.
At one point I had to guide him through on how to change the settings on his iPad to allow me to pull the video off of it and onto his computer. Several more days were added to this end result.-)
I do have access to his PC through the use of Chrome Remote. I wrote the text in the roll based on conversations we've had. I also did the edit, and passed the video back to him for comment. Though he loved it, he felt he could do a better job of singing. The fact is that he can, but I found this iteration to be so honest and open that I convinced him to let me use it.
Reviewing this piece made both my wife and I cry. It also made Dad cry. We all think it's very good and worth sharing, so there you go…
I monitor Dad's email, DavidAsiaEllis@gmail.com, and will print out appropriate messages to him on his printer (like I said he does not use his computer). He only has this email account because I set it up for him.
Peace
ADDED NOTE: It has been pointed out by "Pogoatty" here on Daily Kos that Dad actually served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, which later gave birth to the USAF on 18 September 1947. Dad also told me that, but I thought that only very few people would know that info.-) Thank you, Pogoatty!
