Veteran's microphone cut off when he discusses Blacks' role in establishing Memorial Day
There are stories behind every two-dimensional picture or recorded moment. Without those stories all depth and sensory input become severely limited; perception is limited by a moment’s occurance having occurred remotely away from any subsequent viewers’ immediate grasp. Gone are all the transient frames of reference which differentiate actual living moments from all the distant judgements which time eventually heaps upon past events.. good, bad, and everywhere in between. A bee attracted by a sweet picnic scent being swatted away could cause someone to hit a wire knocking it out..or a horse to fall in battle as a lack of nail rears its ugly long-foretold Murphy’s head.
Such is life.
What happened at Monday morning’s Memorial Day Ceremony at Hudson Ohio’MarkillieCemetary?
An old soldier stood his invited watch of honor..and wasn’t honored in return by those who’d invited him to speak. He simply stood erect in is old dress uniform and gave a good speech; heartfelt and informative, stoic and emotional in his messages. My father at 81 might’ve had a better voice in the giving but he’d have been happy enough with the words as delivered.
But Lt Col. Barnard Kemter’s (USA, Retired) speech apparently wasn’t the one which those who had asked for this worthy’s words in the first place finally decided they wanted him to give.
Perhaps all the usual lies have naturally coalesced with the one big one now and that movement is so big that the hosts just didn’t want to antagonize their large surrounding Trumpublican communities. Perhaps they would instead have been quite happy to have Mike Flynn invoking Myanmar as a Republican solution. Or perhaps they simply didn’t want to hear any positive information about people they don’t give a shit about from someone whom they just realized wasn’t the sort they wanted to hear any shit from. Perhaps it was just the damned ego of some fine upstanding twerp being released in the moment. Perhaps the LC harbors some radical dangerous views they were worried about. Perhaps perhaps perhaps.
They say he was told to edit his speech, he says he sent them a copy and didn’t hear anything back. I know where I’d go with my speech in that case.. and apparently the Lt Col did too. In any case Memorial day came and eventually went.. and the Earth is, *looks around* yep!, still spinning.
His mike was cut. The audio tech refused an order to do so. Someone else did so for some reason I cannot fathom. I listened to the speech; nothing outrageous was said — no hurtful invectives were hurled. The LC just gave a decent speech speaking about some things and people he obviously cares about. His voice may have been faded by time’s passage and a bit tentative here and there but I didn’t hear a single word that wasn’t said in and with all deliberate intent to honor.
I don’t know what really happened here in its fluid totality of moment but it does sorta stink of parfume de burn-pit.
The linked story includes a full vimeo clip link in which you can hear the whole speech for the videographer’s boom mike; the audio drops off when the speaker’s mike is cut but doesn’t scale out entirely… be aware the mike is turned back on after a few minutes so the sound level will noticeably jump.
