In 1868, John A. Logan, Commander in Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, declared May 30 as a day to honor fallen Union soldiers. Since then, what people had once known as“Decoration Day”expanded to recognize the sacrifice of all American war dead — in both the Civil War and the many conflicts since. Today, we know the last Monday in May as Memorial Day.
Sadly, the day's original intent has given way to commercialism and BBQ. What was once a solemn occasion is now the unofficial start of summer. But at least the country’s leaders still honor the original intent.
Even the GOP Congressional leadership managed to do the bare minimum to remember the reason for the occasion. Although McConnell had to add a political tweak. In fairness, it was equally likely he was ripping the MAGA isolationists on Ukraine as he was President Biden when he referred to“growing threats.”
Sadly, but predictably, the GOP establishment was drowned out by the MAGA buffoons. Trump vomited up his usual woe is me, anti-American hate. I have put his words below only for the sake of completeness. There is no reason, dear reader, for you to dirty up your brain by reading it. There is nothing of value or originality in his illiterate screed. Skip ahead.
Although I should warn you, what follows is even more offensive.

The Rape charge was dropped by a jury! Or Arthur Engoron, the N.Y. State Wacko Judge who fined me almost 500 Million Dollars (UNDER APPEAL) for DOING NOTHING WRONG, used a Statute that has never been used before, gave me NO JURY, Mar-a-Lago at $18,000,000 – Now for Merchan!

I have no issue with middle-aged women celebrating their bodies. But pick your moment. The meat-headed egotist decided to‘honor’America’s patriots by celebrating her 50th birthday. Already a crap call. But she upped the WTF factor with a picture of herself not wearing very much. Why? I do not know. Perhaps she is thinking of starting an‘OnlyFans’page. Why not? She has to be some people’s idea of hot stuff.
But on Memorial Day? If she wants to celebrate her physique why not do it the Friday before or the Tuesday after a day honoring the war dead? But that would require see the world from another person’s point of view. And her empathy tank is empty.
Eric Trump, a man born with a silver spoon between his ears, also missed the meaning of the weekend. He retweeted a MAGA moron who claimed that the Trump family had made a sacrifice. Eric took a break from pouring concrete to crow that they would do it again — although he would be hard-pressed to identify what they had given up,
Eric does start an interesting train of thought. While many MAGA celebrities are smart enough to be immoral opportunists fleecing the cultists, Eric may be too dumb to understand the consequences of his actions. So, we may have to cut him some slack.
Is it fair to penalize a man too stupid to understand he is an idiot? In addition, having a man incapable of love as a father must have been painful for a boy desperate to feel affection.
Just kidding. The putz is an adult. He needs to get a grip and grow up.
There is an ocean more of Memorial Day MAGA insensitivity, selfishness, bad manners, and anti-social social-media ranting. But I do not want to pee on an electrified fence anymore.
Therefore, I will stop and reflect on America’s military dead whose graves these false patriots desecrate. If there were a just God, these valiant youths would still be alive, and the craven bastards who dishonor them would take their place.
