Happy Saturday! So as the headline says, what are your plans?
I had pretty detailed plans, but they kind of fell apart for several reasons. At first I was more than a little upset.
I know this won’t sound strange to folks here, but Memorial Day is one of my favorite holidays. If my family had a family business it might be the military. The military has been good to my family. I don’t know the numbers, but since my family came here in the 1880’s it has to be in the many dozens that have served.
The most wonderful thing is that many have seen war (clearly war isn’t wonderful BTW), but only one was even wounded. I didn’t even know this until my early 20s. Grandfather (I share his name, I am a III) told me if I graduated from college with honors he’d buy me any car I wanted. Told him I wanted a Honda. He said nope, “the fucking Japs shot me.” In my entire lifetime it was the only time I heard him cuss or use a racial slur.
That is a blessed, blessed thing. I don’t even know how you would crunch the stats, but that has got to be something so rare it defies logic and numbers.
But enough about that ….. my plans!
When the plans fell apart I decided to keep things stupid, simple.
Pulled a few huge center-cut pork chops out of the freezer. Used a rub I made from the peppers I grew last year. Picked up a couple huge tomatoes and fresh snap peas from the store. Whipped up a couple pounds of garlic mash potatoes and a few gallons of sun tea.
I plan to fire up the grill every 6-8 hours, throw a chop on, and have this meal for at least the next two days.
Will finish reading Armada. Binge watch Bloodline on Netflix. Listen to Radiohead’s new album I’ve downloaded and not even played once. And finally, figure out two new apps I’ve bought: Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock and Sleep.
So that is going to be how I “roll” the next few days, how about you?
