I don’t know when or how Memorial Day turned into barbeques, pool parties and back yard affairs. It used to be a day to honor those in the military. Those who had died while serving in the military.
Anyone who knows me or who has read anything I write knows that I am a pacifist and have certain opinions about the military. Putting those aside, there is one thing I strongly believe in. That the men and women who joined the military, knew that they may be giving their lives in doing so, and we owe it to them to treat them like the hero’s they are.
There should NEVER be a homeless Vet, a hungry Vet, or a Vet in need of anything. Americans should be spending today thanking the people who have laid their lives on the line for America throughout the history of America.
They could also be working to elect more progressive Veterans to Congress. Then, maybe we’ll get some money allocated to get the services that these Veterans need and deserve.
I have a one stop shopping spot for all things candidate related and that’s the group 90for90, a voter mobilization advocacy group that was started to honor a living civil rights legend Dr. William Reid Sr.
Dr. Reid was a surgeon in a MASH unit in Korea. This fine civil rights Icon not only served his country in the Navy but was also a trailblazer in the medical field by working as one of the first black surgeons at Bethesda Naval Hospital. h/t Vetwife www.dailykos.com/...
So, 90for90 is where I went to look for candidates with military service.
For Senate we have:
Iowa
Bob Krause
Missouri
Jason Kander
South Dakota
Jay Williams
For Congress we have:
California CD 20 - Jimmy Panetta
California CD 25 - Lou Vince
California CD 33 -Ted Lieu
California CD 49 -Douglas Applegate
Colorado CD 5 - Misty Plowright
Indiana CD 5 - Angela Demaree
Iowa CD 3 - Jim Mowrer
Nevada CD 2 - Chip Evans
North Carolina CD 2 - John P. McNeil
Washington CD 3 - David McDevitt
Washington CD 8 - Tony Ventrella
And that’s not even counting the candidates who have sons and daughters who are in the military. That’s a lot more “yea” votes in Congress for common sense military policies. HOOYAH!!!
Thom Hartmann interviews the Doctors Reid about many things, including military service.
Despite what people still think, this song is, among other things, about the treatment of Vietnam veterans on their arrival back home.[1]
